HERoEHS Wins “Best Custom Humanoid Robot Award” at RoboCup 2026

HERoEHS, the robotics laboratory of the Department of Robotics Engineering at Hanyang University ERICA,
and humanoid robot company AeiRobot have won the Best Custom Humanoid Robot Award at RoboCup 2026 Incheon
for their jointly developed next-generation humanoid robot, ALICE5.

This award is especially meaningful because ALICE5 was developed without relying on existing commercial platforms.
The team independently developed key components and systems, including the linear actuator drive system, joint mechanisms, frame design, and physical AI-based control algorithms, successfully creating a highly complete bipedal humanoid robot.

ALICE5 is a 170 cm-class humanoid robot designed for deployment in real industrial environments such as manufacturing sites, shipyards, and construction sites. In general, as humanoid robots become larger and heavier, their mass inertia increases, making balance control and precise motion significantly more difficult. These conditions become even more challenging in robot soccer, where rapid changes in direction and instant balance recovery are essential.

Despite these challenges, ALICE5 demonstrated stable walking, agile movement, and excellent mobility in the RoboCup Soccer League, earning high praise from the judges. This achievement shows that ALICE5’s hardware design and control technology are competitive even in dynamic, real-world environments.
